You pay for the size of the load, not the exact weight. Weight only matters if the scale ticket comes in over the limit. Overage is billed from the scale ticket.
The weight limit matters more than the volume for some materials. A rough guide:

| Tile, plaster, shingles | ~0.5–1 ton | A full load lands around the limit. Small overage possible. |
| Dirt / fill | ~1–1.5 tons | Hits 2 tons at about 1.5–2 yd. Expect an overage on a full load. |
| Concrete, brick, stone | ~1.5–2 tons | Hits 2 tons at only 1–1.5 yd. These loads are priced by weight. We’ll tell you before we load. |
